Fur Tanning Information

There are many different methods of tanning skins and hides.
We at Wylde Fur Designs prefer the method of chrome or aluminium tanning, depending on the garment and application.

Wylde Fur Designs only tan "salted" pelts. Salt assists in the drying of the wet (fresh) skins and helps in preventing hair slip prior to "pickling".

All of our hides are acid pickled and soaked in a neutralising agent afterwards,and each one is checked individually with a P.H. tester prior to oiling the pelts.
This prevents any chance of the acid "burning" the skins and weakening them, making it easier to tear during or after manufacture.
